Origin

The history of Casa Parada has its origins in 1950, in the town of San Carlos Yautepec, Oaxaca.

Becoming since then a serious agave cultivators, getting more into the knowledge of their different varieties, they have managed to obtain high quality harvests and agaves rich in sugars, taking full advantage of all the qualities and benefits of this geographical area, such as its climate and soil type.

For the Parada Family it has been always paramount to be promoters of a great slogan inherited by its predecessors, which is to respect the countryside and preserve the diversity of the Agave, continuing its evolution and thanking the land that gives them their origin and identity.

They are great connoisseurs of the field and their work has reaped fruits; in the year 2017 they had the distinction of being awarded the First Place to the Pineapple of Maguey Espadín more large and heavy cultivated in the State of Oaxaca, within the framework of the activities of the XX International Fair of Mezcal.

Casa Parada is one of the few brands that has the privilege and fortune of being immersed in this wide, complex and fascinating world; which is the whole process of elaboration of the Mezcal; they have knowledge, lands, fields and their own palenque. It has the denomination of origin, authorized under NOM-0343X of the Official Mexican Standard for alcoholic beverages and has the Certificate of Kosher food purity.

For all this Casa Parada Mezcal is more than a bottled origin drink: it’s Culture, Identity, Religion and Cult; of a unique and unrepeatable quality.

The Team

San Carlos Yautepec is one of the 570 municipalities that make up the State of Oaxaca, it is located in the Sierra Sur Region (southern), Yautepec District. It has a large territorial extension, which makes it the second largest municipality in the State.

This district is about 91 miles away from the Oaxaca capital city, on the road to the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. Its most important festival is celebrated on November 4 in honor of its Saint Patron Saint Carlos Borromeo, and the patron saint festivities are held in the “octava” (from October 9 to 12),

They are celebrated with a cheerful floral calenda (parade) where young ladies and children participate, making a tour of the main streets of the town. Horse races are also organized with special adaptations of the region where “Cuerudos” participate; and the traditional jaripeo is carried out.

It has the denomination of origin, authorized under NOM-0343X of the Official Mexican Standard for alcoholic beverages and has the Kosher Food Purity Certificate.
The Denomination of Origin was the first step towards consolidating the accreditation of mezcal as a spirit drink.

THE MEXICAN REGULATOR COUNCIL OF THE QUALITY OF THE MEZCAL A.C. accredited as certifying body and verification unit before the Mexican Accreditation Entity (EMA), which from 2003 to the present verify if the mezcal is produced 100% agave, or if it is type II (80% agave and 20% of other sugars) thus generating greater international certainty and credibility to the drink.
